24 October 1997 was conducted a general meeting of St.-Petersburg’s Kendo followers. There was brought up the question of creation of “Interregional Public Organization St.-Petersburg and Leningrad region Kendo Federation”. Also Igor Kalashnikov was elected as a Federation President.
18 December 1997 the Interregional Public Organization “St.-Petersburg and Leningrad region Kendo Federation” was registered in Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation. This day can be considered to be a birth day of “Kendo” in St.-Petersburg.
Interregional Public Organization “St.-Petersburg and Leningrad region KENDO FEDERATION” or IPOKF (hereinafter “KENDO FEDERATION”), registered on 18 December 1997 in Administration of Justice, is a voluntary Public organization, created basing on a free-will of citizenry, united by common interests and working on the territory of St.-Petersburg city and Leningrad region.
Purposes of “KENDO FEDERATION”:
- organization of kendo sections and development of kendo martial art in St.-Petersburg and Leningrad region;
- sportsmen training system improvement;
- development and consolidation of inter-republican and international connections with associations and national kendo clubs and federations in Russia and foreign countries;
- sportsmen, coaches and other specialists social security, concern for old honoured sportsmen and charity;
- conducting of annual championships, seminars and other kendo events;
- study and creative development of related martial arts.
In 1999 member of the “KENDO FEDERATION” Vyacheslav An was the first our kendo-club participant of the Third Russian Kendo Championship of “Peaceful Heart” Cup, established by former Prime-minister of Japan Ryutaro Hashimoto. There Vyacheslav An suitably competed with notable sportsmen and was certified by the Japanese masters headed by Ide-sensei (7 dan).
28 April 1999 “KENDO FEDERATION” members took part in the First Volga Region Championship (V. An, I. Mikhailovskiy, V. Kazarin).
During 1998-99 “KENDO FEDERATION” established connection with Finland kendo-club (president – A. Kaariaynene) and Moscow-club (President – N. Yakovlev). At the same period “KENDO FEDERATION” obtained required equipment and leased dojo.
“KENDO FEDERATION” often conducts open trainings and seminars, inviting Moscow Kendo masters.
